Michał Zieliński

MICHAŁ ZIELIŃSKI (born 1965), music theorist, composer, arranger & vocalist.
In the years 1986-1991 he studied composition and theory of music at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. After graduation he has been employed at his home academy, where he teaches instrumentation, solfeggio and modal harmony. Apart from didactic activity, he participates in symposiums organized by Polish and foreign music universities. He published dozens of articles in scientific journals and the “Muzyka” Quarterly. In January 2004, at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, he defended his doctoral dissertation titled “Tadeusz Baird’s orchestral works in the context of orchestration technique” (written under the supervision of prof. Maciej Gołąb), and in December 2011 at the Academy of Music in Kraków — habilitation work titled “Towards a model of the Mozartean symphony orchestra”.
His output includes choral works (eg. Laudate Dominum, Alleluia, Stabat Mater, Magnificat, A Prayer, when the children go to sleep, Missa super cantiones profanae), chamber music (eg. Harpsichord Concerto, Variations for vibraphone and piano) and solo works (eg. Sonatine for piano, 6 Studies for marimba).
He is the co-founder, vocalist and artistic director of the Ensemble of Early Music Collegium Vocale Bydgoszcz. Since 1992 the ensemble performed more than 300 concerts in Poland and abroad (Belarus, Denmark, Germany, Serbia, Sweden, Italy). Collegium Vocale recorded several broadcasts and television shows, and published 12 CD albums. The debut album (DUX 0248) received the “Fryderyk 2001” award in the category “Album of the Year—Early Music”. The second album “Jezusa Judasz przedał” with Polish passion songs (DUX 0469) was nominated to “Fryderyk 2004” award. In 2012, the ensemble was honored with the Medal of the Archconfraternity of Literature “For a creative contribution to Christian culture.”
