Łukasz Macioszek

He is a Polish musician playing the double bass and 8’ and 16’ foot violone, a Doctor of Arts (PhD) realizing himself in solo, chamber and orchestra playing, as well as in historically informed performance from the Renaissance to early Romanticism.

He graduated from the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology and at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz at the Faculty of Instruments in the class of Joanna Krempeć-Kaczor, where he obtained the title of Master of Arts. At the same university, with the highest grade and distinction, he also graduated from Baroque double bass – violone in the class of Christian Zincke, obtaining an entry in the golden book of graduates. He has also perfected his skills in the violone class of Margaret Urquhart at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

As early as in the second year of studying he began cooperating with the Opera Nova Orchestra in Bydgoszcz, where he worked as a soloist, performing around 800 spectacles and concerts. He has been permanently associated with the I.J. Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra in Bydgoszcz. He has worked under the direction of many conductors, including: Jerzy Maksymiuk, Jacek Kasprzyk, Antoni Wit, Václav Luks, Jakob Lehmann, Michał Klauza, Mykola Diadura, Jose Maria Florencio, Andrzej Knap, Jonathan Cohen, Andrzej Straszyński, Raoul Grüneis, Marek Pijarowski, Wojciech Rajski, Jan Tomasz Adamus, Marcin Sompoliński, Kai Bumann, Warcisław Kunz, Andrzej Kosendiak, Jan Łukaszewski, Eugene Tzigane, and others.

The artist has cooperated with many ensembles performing early music, including: {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna, Capella Cracoviensis, Orchestra of the 18th Century, Goldberg Baroque Ensemble, Polish Chamber Choir Schola Cantorum Gedanensis, Ensemble Inégalité, Vox Luminis, Pohlnische Capelle, Wrocław Baroque Ensemble, Schola Cantorum Thorunensis, Octava Ensemble, Capella Musica Gnesnensis, Orkiestra Musica Antiqua of Andrzej Szwalbe, Intemperata, Bydgoszcz Baroque Ensemble, Orchestra of the Academy of Early Music Foundation and others like Toruń Symphony Orchestra, Capella Bydgostiensis, Nova Quartet, Polish Film Music Orchestra, Lunatic Quartet, Raffa Quartet and Bydgoszcz Symphony Orchestra. He has performed in Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, Lithuania and The Netherlands during numerous festivals.

Łukasz Macioszek perfected his skills during research and master classes, e.g. in Bydgoszcz, Campobasso (Italy), Brno (Czech Republic), Lucca (Italy), Freiburg (Germany), The Hague (Netherlands), Graz (Austria), led by exceptional double bass players and teachers such as: Zoran Marković, Giuseppe Ettore, Miloslav Jelínek, Diego Zacharies, Tobias Glöckler, Wolfgang Harrer, Christian Zincke, Gottfried von der Goltz, Margaret Urquhart, James Munro, and Dane Roberts.

As a chamber musician, he won the 3rd place at the National Auditions of Chamber Ensembles in Warsaw and he gained distinction at the Autumn Confrontations of Chamber Ensembles in Inowrocław. As a soloist, he is the winner of the 1st prize at the 9th International Music Competition in Belgrade and the 1st International Northern Music Competition in Stockholm, as well as the 2nd prize at the 3rd International Music Competition in Geneva and the 1st International Music Competition in Brussels. He also remained a semi-finalist of the EOEA Orchestral Competition during the 6th European Double Bass Congress in Lucca.

He is a scholarship holder of the President of the City of Bydgoszcz and the Marshal of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.

He also teaches violone, Viennese bass and historical double bass in the violone class at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz.
