Łukasz Godyla
In 2006 he commenced his studies in the composition class of Professor Zbigniew Bargielski at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, Poland, at the Faculty of Composition, Theory of Music and Sound Engineering. Additionally, in 2009, he began his study in the field of theory of music. He graduated cum laude from both specializations in 2011.
In the years 2011-2014 he took part in the doctoral program of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. In 2014 he received the degree of the Doctor of Musical Arts in the artistic fields of composition and theory of music. As of 2011, he has taught at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz.
Łukasz Godyla has been the winner of the following national and international composition competition prizes:
2014 – the 40th Anniversary Polish Institute in Vienna Composition Competition – 1st Prize for Anagram for piano four hands,
2013 – the academy competition for the ‘musical logo’ of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz – 1st Prize,
2010 – the Zygmunt Mycielski Memorial Composition Competition organized by the Young Composers’ Section of the Polish Composers’ Union – 1st Prize for Monolog for an actor and chamber ensemble,
2008 – the National Composition Competition Legnica Cantat – honorary mention for Lignum Crucis for mixed choir a cappella,
2008 – the Tadeusz Baird Memorial Young Composers’ Competition in Warsaw – 1st Prize for Trzy spojrzenia na muzykę (Three Glances at Music) for oboe solo,
2007 – the Tadeusz Ochlewski Memorial Composition Competition of the Polish Music Publishing House in Krakow – honorary mention for Cyrkulacje (Circulations) for trombone solo,
2006 – the National Composition Competition for works inspired by the poetry of Tadeusz Różewicz organized by the City of Gliwice and the Musical Theater of Gliwice to commemorate the poet’s 85th birthday – 1st Prize for Zostawcie nas (Let Us Be) for bass (male voice), violin and piano.
Moreover, Łukasz Godyla received the following awards and artistic scholarships:
2014 – the Award of the Rector of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz,
2010 – the Scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage,
2009 – the Scholarship of the Chairman of the Greater Poland Voivodeship,
2008 – the Artistic Scholarship of the President of the City of Bydgoszcz,
2007 – the World Music Day Award of the Chairman of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship,
2007 – the John Paul II Scholarship.
Łukasz Godyla compositions have been presented in Poland, Austria, France, and Italy, they found their way to the repertoires of prestigious festivals such as the International Contemporary Music Festival Warsaw Autumn, the Polish Music Festival in Krakow or the World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, France. Their interpretations have been attempted by outstanding conductors, soloists, and ensembles (including Wojciech Michniewski, Jerzy Swoboda, the Pomeranian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Scontri Ensemble, Modern Sax Duo). Assorted works by Łukasz Godyla have been published by the Polish Music Publishing House and the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz Publishing Department with a number of his compositions recorded on CD’s released by the Polish Music Information Center and the Polish Composers’ Union).
Łukasz Godyla is a member of the Young Composers’ Section of the Polish Composers’ Union in Warsaw (in the years 2010-2012 he was one of the Members of the Executive Board). Moreover, he is among the original members of the Bydgoszcz division of the Polish Composers’ Union.
