Marcin Gawdzis
Marcin Gawdzis, Ph.D. – born on 20.12.1972, jazz trumpeter, teacher, composer and arranger, jazz trumpet lecturer at the Department of Conducting, Jazz and Music Education at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. In 1995, he graduated from the Department of Jazz and Contemporary Music at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in the trumpet class of prof. Piotr Wojtasik. In 1993 and 1995, together with THE SIMILARS and JOINT VENTURE, he won 1st prize and individual distinctions at the Jazz Juniors Festival in Krakow. In 1994 he won the 4th place at the International Jazz Improvisation Competition in Katowice. During his studies, he recorded trumpet solo parts along with pop music artists, including: KAYAH, RENI JUSIS, NATALIA KUKULSKA, MIETEK SZCZEŚNIAK, F.N.S, NOCNA ZMIANA BLUESA and KRZYSZTOF KRAWCZYK. He has performed in almost all European countries. He has a guest appearance in the recording of 35 albums of various artists, creating in various styles of entertainment music. He has co-produced three solo group albums and produced the original album of his quintet. Among the many musicians with whom he collaborated should be mentioned: Eric Allen, Jerry Goodman, Maria Schneider, Karen Edwards prof. Andrzej Zubek, prof. Piotr Kusiewicz, prof. Leszek Kułakowski, Jonathan Rautio, Garry Guthman, Tyler Hornby, Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Leszek Możdżer, Maciej Sikała, Piotr Wojtasik, Grzegorz Nagórski, Jacek and Wojciech Niedziela, Zbigniew and Jacek Namysłowski, Krystyna Stańko, Krystyna Prońko, Anna Serafińska, Mariusz Klimek, Tomasz Steńczyk, Bartosz Krzywda, Dariusz Zaleśny, Kasia Nosowska, Paulina Przybysz, Piotr Lemańczyk, Dominik Bukowski, Przemek Dyakowski, Emil Kowalski, Adam Wendt, Józef Eliasz, Bohdan Hołownia, Jarosław Śmietana, Tomek Sowiński, Cezary Konrad, Marek Napiórkowski, Karol Szymanowski, Piotr Biskupski, Krzysztof Przybyłowicz, Zbigniew Wrombel, Piotr Olszewski, Krzysztof Herdzin, Jerzy Małek, Maciej Fortuna, Piotr Schmidt, Wojtek Jachna, Maurycy Wójciński, Tomasz Kudyk, Kuba Kujawa, Grzegorz Nadolny, Grzegorz Daroń, and many others. In 2003, he received an individual award for the best instrumentalist at Jazz – Rock Festival in Olsztyn. Also this year he started cooperation with the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz. In 2012, he was awarded by the President of Elbląg City in the category of the Event of the Year. In 2014, for the solo album Shadows of Autumn, he was nominated for the Fryderyk Award in the category: Jazz Debut of the Year.
