Radosław Marzec

Radosław Marzec (full professor) was born in Białystok (Poland) in 1971. He studied organ with Piotr Grajter at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, from which he graduated with distinction in 1996. He honed his organ skills by doing a post-degree programme in André Stricker’s class at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg (France), which he completed, obtaining a diploma in the organ specialization. In the years 1995–1996 he was an awardee of the Minister of Culture and Art scholarship for his outstanding artistic achievements. He was an active participant in masterclasses taught by such renowned organists as Marie-Claire Alain, Guy Bovet, Ferdinand Klinda, or Herbert Wulf. He also later received a scholarship to take part in a masterclass with Jean Guillou in Zurich (Switzerland) and the Summer International Organ Academy in Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges (France) with a series of classes taught by Michael Chapuis and André Stricker. In 1994 he won the Main Prize of the Organ Competition in Rumia (Poland), and in 1999 he was among the finalists of the International Mikael Tariverdiev Organ Competition in Kaliningrad (Russia), where he was presented with the Special Award for the best rendition of the compulsory pieces. In 2005 the Polihymnia Publishing House from Lublin published his book Interpreting Johann Sebastian Bach’s Organ Works in the Light of 18th-Century Sources. In 2006 he made the first CD recording of the organ music written by the Polish 17th-century composer and organist Adam of Wągrowiec. At his alma mater Radosław teaches his own organ class as a professor of the Faculty of Instrumental Music. Besides pedagogical work he is busy giving organ recitals at home and abroad.
